El Hombre Bala

Winery: Comando G

Region: Madrid

Coupaje:  Garnacha (RED)

Vintage: 2017

Very bright, clean, low cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim. The first thing to notice in this lovely garnacha is the remarkable purity of the nose. Red berries, lollipop and bitter herbs, alongside a touch of fennel, toast, and spices. As this wine from Sierra de Gredos opens, we perceive nuances of liquor-infused fruit, violets, and underbrush. The palate lively and elegant. This wine is reminiscent of ripe red fruit, aniseed, aromatic herbs, and sweet spices. Good acidity, with a real sense of terroir and polished tannins. Long finish with some underbrush remembrances and hints of flowers and menthol.

Recommended pairing with grilled beef, pork roast, grilled lamb, or pasta with bolognese sauce.

Decant this red wine from Madrid 1 hour before drinking.

The interesting "El Hombre Bala" is one of the three wines crafted by the Comando G winery within the Uvas Felices ("Happy Grapes") project.

The new vintage of this Spanish red wine is a single varietal Grenache. The grapes come from old vines from 50 to 90, years of age grown in plots composed of granite soils, located at altitudes between 900 and 1000 metres and farmed following biodynamic principles.

After a meticulous harvest, the grape bunches were destemmed and then fermented and macerated in wooden vats and French oak barrels. Then El Hombre Bala 2017 was aged for 10 months in 400 and 700-litre French oak barrels.

The vineyards are located in Sierra de Gredos (Gredos mountain range), an area that, despite not having any legal recognition due to bureaucratic hindrances, has raised to prominence as one of Spain's hottest wine spots.
